Hey, I’m Sherry - a.k.a. The Book Buddy!
I connect kids to great children’s books - stories that will open their hearts and minds, inspire, motivate, and teach.
As a Barefoot Books Community Bookseller, I share books and stories at Preschool Bookfairs, Personal Bookfairs, and Farmer’s Markets in and around the San Antonio area.

My Story
As an elementary school teacher, librarian, and mom of three, I’ve spent the last 35 years connecting children (and their grownups) to great books.
I chose a career in education and library science because of my own childhood passion for reading and learning - thanks to MY librarian mama! And I’ve learned so much over the years.
Some kids seem like they’re “born readers,” - but most kids require lots of time, direct instruction, and plenty of trial and error before they learn to enjoy reading. They also benefit from calm guidance, knowledgeable book recommendations, and a patient, determined, encouraging adult who won’t give up. That’s where I come in!
I’m passionate about growing eager, capable learners by giving adults awesome ideas and resources, and by helping connect kids with the BEST possible books. My love for reading, and the needs of kids and their families have guided my career for years, and now lead my business.

In My Barefoot Shop, you can purchase some of my favorite Barefoot Books that I keep in stock at my home. If you don't find what you need, the link is provided to the main Barefoot Books page.
In the future, you may also find other products that enrich and support children's reading, like puppets, games, and bookish crochet items.

In the past, I have offered elementary reading Tutoring for local (San Antonio) kids. I also enjoy holding Book Clubs and Storytimes for small groups of children.
For the Fall of 2024, these services are on a temporary hold, but I am planning to bring them back in the Spring of 2025.

Some services are free!
I am happy to consult with you in person, show you Barefoot Books, and recommend books you and your child might enjoy.
I also set up and run Bookfairs & Markets at no charge. Preschool Bookfairs take place at a day school or daycare, and Personal Bookfairs happen in either my home or a customer's home. Check my Instagram for my monthly Market schedule!
Book Clubs and Storytimes are usually fee-based services.
